  • While Prague’s city centre can be called magical, the rest of the city evades any proper definition. Each district and neighbourhood has its own aura, and we’re here to roam with you through areas that are underappreciated by travellers.

There is no better place to learn about the Velvet Revolution than the stage on which it occurred: Wenceslas Square. We dive into the stories that marked this turbulent period, spearheaded by students and a chain-smoking Bohemian, who led the country into nationhood.

Afterward, we quickly shy away from the big streets and find our way into a passage filled with beauty, history, and provocative art before we stop for our first snack, officially kicking off the tasting aspect of the Bohemia food tour with a speciality in a typical Czech bistro.

Now things begin to get even more interesting; hopping on the metro or tram, we leave the centre and begin to explore other neighbourhoods, learning about Prague’s less trodden parts and sampling some of the best of what they have to offer. We find our way to a microbrewery to sample some of the best beer around and an incredible local dish that should be on your must-eat list.

Then we set off again, learning about some authors who have enthralled the nation and activists who have changed this landscape forever. Bohemianism and art go hand in hand, so we meander off towards the third neighbourhood of Vršovice. This is an alternative area that we get to know as we stop at a unique café for some traditional dessert. After a short hike to the tram stop, we catch a ride back into the city centre to see a large piece of art from a local artist who has made a name for himself, for better or worse.

Mark was such a fun and entertaining guide. He offered us some great insights into the history of Bohemian Prague and I can definitely recommend him and this tour to anyone who wants to get off the beaten tourist path whilst visiting this beautiful city!

Mrs. Lynn P. from Australia travelled on 30 May 2018:

The guide (Kaca) was excellent. She gave us a good feel for what life was like pre and post the EU. She took us to areas of Prague that we would not have seen had it not been for her guide. She was personable, took the time to get to know all of us and was very enthusiastic. She even sent us recipes, book and movie suggestions to get to know Czech culture even better. It was really nice spending the time with her and listening to her experience on Prague life.

It was a fantastic experience and I thoroughly enjoyed the efforts by Tereza to keep us all engaged throughout the afternoon. I would highly recommend this tour to my friends and wish there were more like it!

Kaca was a wonderful guide. Her love and enthusiasm for her country and city was apparent, and made for a tour that exceeded my expectations.

Great way to see other areas not on the usual tourist trail

    Our guide was fantastic

Ms. Raina N. from Czech Republic travelled on 28 Feb 2017:

This tour was the best one I have done in Prague- it really painted a picture of the life, culture and history of the Bohemia. Our guide was great and provided useful tips and information on a range of things including getting around on public transport-always useful in a new city! We also found a few hidden food places that were fantastic and which we retunred to after the trip. I would highly recommend this tour.

    Made the day super interesting

Mr. David M. from Australia travelled on 20 May 2016:

Only two of us on our tour so we got Travis’s undivided attention and were able to have all our questions considered in full. Whilst we really enjoyed our time and learnt heaps, and went to areas many travellers might not go, there could have been a greater focus on the ‘bohemian’ aspect.

Ms. Jaime G. from Australia travelled on 18 Mar 2016:

I was lucky enough to have lovely Travis as my own personal tour guide last week and it was fabulous. I was clear to him from the onset that my knowledge of Prague’s history was patchy at best, but mostly non-existent. I also told him I like beer. Both of which, were perfectly factored into the tour. It was honestly like cruising around Prague with a friend, and to places I wouldn’t have known I about otherwise. Over the course we visited some places in the downtown area, before hopping on the metro to some of the ‘cool’ areas of town where there were some hidden gems, including a really lovely vegan cafe we went to for tapas after I explained that I don’t eat meat. The food was great, and the company was easy. I freely admit that I’m a bt of an introvert, so initially a one on one tour was a little overwhelming. I think Travis recognised that, and soon the tour became more of a ‘discussion’ allowing me to be involved without any of those pressures that other introverts will experience in such a situation. And truly, after the fist 30 minutes, I was totally at ease.
The booking process through Urban Adventures was super easy, and the tour itself was exactly what I was looking for. I can find all the major sites on my own, but I couldn’t have gotten as much of Prague’s history as I did without reading copious books (of which Travis was kind enough to email me some of the author’s I should check out after the tour). I though Travis was a fantastic guide and I couldn’t recommend him more. I think he must excel in these types of tours, since his is knowledge is obviously extensive. Thanks again, Travis 🙂

Mr. Debra B. from Australia travelled on 27 Sep 2015:

Nikki, ou guide, was enthusiastic, personable, and very well informed on Czech history and culture. He made our first day in Prague so interesting and comfortable. Without him we would have been overwhelmed at the traffic and size of Prague. He got us off to a great start.

Mr. Jade McIntosh F. from Australia travelled on 18 May 2015:

A very enjoyable tour of alternative Prague, revisiting Bohemia as it were, by a learned and friendly multi-lingual guide. This also included sampling local beer, eating a meal in a vegetarian restaurant and treats at a farmers’ market. We would definitely recommend this tour to those who seek to learn about Prague’s cultural history, aside from the main tourist attractions.

Ms. Rachel J. from USA travelled on 26 Jun 2014:

Really enjoyed the whole experience! Niki was a fantastic guide, he obviously knows so much about the city and its art and culture. Highly recommend the tour to others!
